California is an incredibly special place. We are home to several national parks and so many natural wonders; including the Giant Sequoia Tree. Surrounding yourself with these amazing giants is one of the best feelings in the world and they need our help to stay protected from the industries trying to remove protections from our public lands for their own profit.
I created this sterling silver treasure box necklace completely by hand to depict this amazing natural wonder that we are so fortunate to still be protect. On the inside of this necklace i created two Giant Sequoia Trees with an onlooking deer, peering over its shoulder towards the dense forest.
I adorned the door of this treasure box necklace with a very special and unique cab. I collected several lupine flowers in my homegrown garden in Ventura County, CA and placed them within the pages of a great book, Nature's Best Hope written by Dr. Douglas Tallamy, which outlines the importance of native plants, both in nature and in our own yards. I pressed the flowers until they were dried and perfect. I then collected several agates along the Malibu coast, brought them home, and cut them into slices. I used lapidary grade epoxy to sandwich the flowers between the agates and let them cure. I then cabbed each of these into different shapes; ready to become gorgeous jewelry representations of the beauty of California.
Every single part of this interactive piece is completely handmade by myself; nothing is cast and everything is 100% one of a kind.
